THE GIFF SCHOOL FESTIVAL

For its 29th edition, the Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF) returns with new proposals designed for school children. Since 1995, the Festival has presented the public with stories in multiple formats. Whether in the form of series, films or, more recently, immersive works in virtual, mixed or augmented reality (XR), the GIFF programme seeks to explore the infinite territories of digital technology. The Festival thus invites its audience to experiment with digital works designed to renew our view of cinema and new technologies.

Each year, the GIFF offers workshops in classes and programmatic initiatives in favour of image education or digital creation awareness. The Festival thus proposes to broaden our perspectives thanks to digital technology, while providing adequate tools to exercise a critical and constructive look at the media.

Registration for school programms for the 2023 edition will open in August.

GIFF XR ROADSHOW: A RESIDENCY DEDICATED TO VIRTUAL REALITY

In a society where we are increasingly subject to formatted digital narratives, access to the diversity of virtual universes is becoming a key issue. To promote this access, GIFF has transformed a caravan to offer an immersive experience to small groups in optimal conditions. The caravan will go on tour starting in autumn 2023, and Geneva’s secondary I and II schools can now sign up to host it. During a GIFF XR Roadshow residency, GIFF cultural outreach team organizes experimentation workshops to help classes understand the contemporary challenges of virtual and augmented reality, while questioning the place of digital technology in our society.
