Is digital the final step in round-the-clock population surveillance? We have almost forgotten the omnipresence of surveillance systems in our contemporary societies. Smartphones, cameras and algorithms silently surround us, making us fear for our free will at a time when the full implications of artificial intelligence are only beginning to emerge. This obscure tale by Jean-Michel Jarre and Hsin-Chien Huang challenges our conscience – just like George Orwell did with 1984 – to define the role of free will in the face of technological developments. A fascinating work with an original score by the maestro of electronic music.
